Twitter is hot right now, all the cool kids are using it. Including The Streets frontman Mike Skinner. “I am going to tweet 3 new songs this week. I can’t be bothered with all this trying to sell you music. It wastes valuable time” he said and posted a link to a new track – ‘I Love My Phone’. So I downloaded it and had a listen. Straight away Mike gets into the trademark Streets ranting with a punchy drum-beat and various samples recurring in the background. There’s a lot of detail in it, phone beeps at the end of each line; which is what makes The Streets’ music so addictive. After a satisfyingly successful fourth album ‘Everything Is Borrowed’ charting #7 in the UK Albums Chart in September 2008, I can’t wait to see what’s next from Mike.
