We’ve all heard or come across the sheer ingenuity of mixtapes, mashups, bootlegs and mixings that all potentially render our minds to fathom the fact that, “Oh no, he did not just do that?!” Well, it’s safe to say that most mash-ups, if not all, have a majority of their influence directed towards hip-hop and rap surroundings. That’s when things change: Half Hip-Hop/Half Indie-Rock. The Hood Internet provides the indie masses with a twist of indie suburbia connected through the familiarity of mainstream hip-hop tunes.

OJ Da Juiceman vs. Discovery – Make The Loop Say Aye
This arrangement features the side project Discovery, a duo consisting of Vampire Weekend’s keyboardist, Rostam Batmanglij, and Ra Ra Riot’s lead singer, Wes Miles. Collaborated with the underground rap of OJ Da Juiceman, Make The Loop Say Aye is a tune worth the while.
Hey Champ vs. Midlake vs. Beyond the Wizard’s Sleeve – Roscoe Girl
With the combination of indie-electronica sounds ala Hey Champ, and the psychedelic rock from bands Midlake and Beyond the Wizard’s Sleeve, this tune provides the listener with a mellow rhythm and beat intertwined with some soft rock that complements each three bands together quite nicely.
Major Lazer vs. Dirty Projectors – Hold The Stillness
Reggae + Indie Rock + Americana twang. Just listen and hopefully you’ll appreciate what this unique combination can potentially bring.
Michael Jackson vs. Ratatat – Billie “Wildcat” Jean
The electronic minds of duo, Ratatat, have exclusively been heard. Collaborated with the King of Pops’, Billie Jean, the sheer mishmash of a pop classic with an electronic synth has to be responsible for some head bobbing out there, right?
Phoenix vs. Why? – Shoeing Horses in 1901
This is different. Different, but it works. Why? is an American indie/alternative/hip-hop band from Berkeley, California that is responsible for everything but the vocals in this track. And then there’s Phoenix, but we all know how they deliver. Enjoy this one.
Weezer vs. Drake – El Besto I Ever Had
This one’s just for fun. I mean, all the above tracks are for fun as well, but this tune is really just for fun. Rivers Cuomo, I thank you. Drake, I’ve only listened to your one song but thanks for the complementary backtrack.
The Hood Internet is definitely a project to get your hands on. They bring something different to the mash-up community by providing indie-rock samples mixed with the hip-hop we all know and love. Highly recommended if you’re seeking a little change in your library.
The verdict? 5/5
