I’m a big fan of good post-hardcore: if you can mix hardcore aggression and distortion with genuine artistic merit and pull it off without pretention or whininess, then you’ve got my ear. Most bands can’t produce a sound that carries all of the aforementioned necessaries.
She’s in Black can. Despite the seriously scenester name of the group, there’s nothing cheesy once you get past the moniker. Guitars pound in a hardcore-induced fury, as ragged rhythms and vocals propel it out of true hardcore areas and into post-hardcore areas. The sung/yelled/screamed vocals are vaguely reminiscent of MeWithoutYou’s Aaron Weiss, but not too horribly. The agression of the guitars cancels out many other possible comparisons to MWY, as She’s in Black is definitely heavier than Weiss and his cohorts have ever been, to the best of my knowledge. This is seriously interesting post-hardcore- Itook some time out to listen to some extra tracks, and I was pleased. Check them out at their myspace and their purevolume.
