For his second album “The Boy Who Knew Too Much”, Mika draws his inspiration from feelings and escapades experienced during childhood adolescence. He sings about everything from that damned teen angst, to the awkward crushes to struggles between friends, and learning how to be comfortable with who you are. A lot of his songs are reflective to personal experiences.
One song has a dance club beat which is a reference to a moment he had as a teen, when, while being frustrated with his friends, he hears a song at a club that just makes him dance with himself. Mika incorporates a wide variety of background sounds including his teenaged cousin, as well as a choir and string instruments, which gives the album as a whole a diverse feel, while still keeping very Mika-esque feel. Unlike other artists, Mika is often visually inspired, which is why he surrounds himself with pictures as well as draws to immerse himself in his work.
