I’ve been listening a lot to the Mountain Goats- I saw them live and their energy excited me. One, because energy is energy, and two, because they funneled their energy into dainty little indie-pop songs with weird rhythms that barely got up to ‘blasting the stereo’ volume. But man, were they ever excited. Their melodies are the type that never leave your head….just kinda stuck there on repeat, one line over and over. I love songs like “No Children” (about a marriage of alcoholics), “Dance Music” (about escaping reality), and “Woke Up New” (about being broken up with). And yet, for all the morbidness, it’s still so happy-sounding. Get tricked by the Mountain Goats.
