I’ve been addicted to Mon Frere lately. Their motto is: “We’re dirty, we’re pop, and we can’t stop!” Thankfully, their advertising is solid- they are dirty pop with a solid work ethic in releasing music. They dance playfully over the line where power-pop becomes indie rock becomes dance rock, and we’re all the more excited for it. Their squalling, chunky guitars contrast with the howled female vocals (imagine what Karen O could be if she had some vocal lessons) and make some ridiculously catchy and fun moments. Check out “R.V.D.G.S (Fighting Mad)” for a taste of their real power. Then check out “Real Ultimate Power”, then just listen to the rest of their PV player. It’s great.
And if you’re wondering, R.V.D.G.S means “Real Vampires Don’t Get Sh**faced”. They have a wonderfully quirky sense of humor, as well. All in all, definitely a band worth checking out.
