So I’m going to talk about Iver.
You know all those really crappy pop duets that feature male and female vocals? I hate those. They’re almost indiscriminately terrible. I’ve actually only heard two I enjoyed (one was a country song called “Whiskey Lullaby”, and the second I’m leaving open because I’m sure I enjoy one that I can’t think of right now).
But Iver takes male/female vocals into a whole different galaxy. This guy and this girl cross voices nearly perfectly. They play off each others’ strengths, they harmonize beautifully, they are both passionate, and they are both really, really talented. The guy is a tenor, and the girl’s an alto- and it crosses excellently.
And when you layer it over their dual-piano songwriting, you have an invincible combo. These songs have two full sets of 88 keys playing simultaneously- intricate, interwoven, amazing. These songs are tight. The indie-pop goodness overflows. It’s really, really good. If you’re a fan of Something Corporate, Ben Folds, Fiona Apple, or piano in general, you will fall madly in love with Iver. Listen at their purevolume.
