I am an unabashed pop-a-holic. If I can hum it, and it has some degree of creativity (read: not the same four chords in the same rhythm), I will like it. If said pop song makes me want to sleep, I will like it even more- I love, love, love mellow music.
This is why I like Hurter so much. Hurter is like the Postal Service, except Hurter is depressed in all the places that the Postal Service is happy. It’s extremely soothing material- the beats are soft(er), but it’s the vocals that really make it. The leads are male vocals, but they’re so soft and inviting that it almost seems like not a man or a woman at all but another beautiful instrument. The female vocals are great harmonizers- really giving depth to the song. The melodies are strong, but they’re not pronounced and and jagged like the Postal Service’s. Hurter just feels more cohesive. And that’s good. Go Hurter.
