Dorian Minor, despite the pretentious name, is really a band of guys playing pop music. Complex, intricate pop music, yes- but at its heart, pop music. They’re releasing a new album soon, and as a teaser, they’ve dropped two tunes for our listening pleasure: “Crestview” and “Take a Walk”. You can hear their tunes at their myspace or their purevolume- both contain the same songs, so it’s really just your preference of music player that will guide you (I hate myspace’s xml files, so I use PV).
But seriously, their sound is fantastic. Full of starts and stops, their songwriting is wonderfully unpredictable- something sorely missing in today’s pop scene. Throw in some wistful vocals with a beautiful falsetto and some happy-go-lucky vibes, and you’ve got gold- pure gold. These tracks bounce and bubble with a unique and clever joy; pop at its intelligent finest.
