This warrants for some ecstatic schoolgirl responses but the new leaked single by Kid Cudi, Cudderisback, features the Ottoman single from Vampire Weekend as it’s backing track. I really do not know what to think of this nor I do not know what VW would think of this. The rest it up to you.

OK. I really can’t wait much longer for the new album, Contra, to come out on January 12, but these brand new songs from VW are making the hype and build up well worth it.

California English, Pt. 2, is a B-Side from the Cousins single and will be featured on the new album, circa 2010. Enjoy!

Band Uncovered: Afternoon Naps

Today I was browsing around the internet in search of some new music to add to my library. Lo and behold I came upon Afternoon Naps. As a siesta or as a band, it could only mean one thing: good stuff. I looked into it and arrived at the conclusion that this band is fantastic AND they had recently released a new album, “Parade”. The band has a very lighthearted, mellow feel to it, and you can tell they were influenced by The Smiths through their acoustics; “lightly strummed guitar”, as my fellow writer David so eloquently put it. They also remind me of the group Voxtrot, with similar vocals and summery feel. You should definitely check them out!

Harry Partch was the longest surviving WW1 veteran.

Harry Partch was a musician who invented the 43-tone scale.

Radiohead wrote “Harry Partch” about the veteran but it was mistook to be about the musician.

A member from the Fiery Furnaces insulted Radiohead’s “Harry Partch”, but they didn’t respond.

Beck decided to retaliate and wrote his own “Harry Partch” that can be listened to below:

Vampire Weekend has released a music video for their new single “Cousins”. This tune is at a much faster pace, compared to their previous single “Horchata”. I am getting really pumped for their new album, released in January 2010.

Band Uncovered: Clues

The Montreal-based band Clues has been out playing in small venues since 2007, but released their self titled debut album just this year. Band members Alden Penner, ex-Unicorns member, and Brended Reed, ex-Arcade Fire member, along with Ben Borden, Lisa Gamble, and Nick Scribner work together to make a post-punk/experimental feel to their music. Their 11 track album has great instrumental backgrounds that have a way of unexpectedly exploding from something soothing to a powerful melody, with flawless integration. What caught my attention was the track “Ledmonton”, who’s chorus had a catchy instrumentation backing up the rejoicing lyrics. The band launched their own website, which focuses on under cover artists who don’t receive outside attention.

Album Review of “For Emma, Forever Ago” by Bon Iver

Music does not get any more beautiful, organic, or raw as this. At least for now it doesn’t. Justin Vernon, or most commonly known as, Bon Iver, is the lyrical mindset behind this album and concept. Recorded in a cabin somewhere isolated in northern Wisconsin (following his previous project’s break-up, DeYarmond Edison), solitude and complete isolation took over as it helped him to plan his struggles, issues, pain, hurt, and emotions, into 9 tracks.

The album’s attempt to convey his feelings in a little under 4 minutes, 9 times in a row, really paints a portrait for the listener and puts them in the front seat of wherever they wish to go. You can really hear Vernon’s struggle and emotions in these tracks; something that is hard and at times intangible to many artists these days. There are many pieces of music I hear throughout spans of time, or even at random instances, but I am sure the potential that For Emma, Forever Ago sheds has extracted what beautiful music is no matter what definitive moment in time as well as it’s separation from the rest, just as Vernon had done when creating the album.

I hate doing this, that is, picking out the ‘best’ tracks, so to speak. The one’s in bold are the numbers that personally connect with me, but in actuality, every single song on this album is just beyond perfect. And that’s to say the least. Tracks #1-8 seem to tell the story of Vernon’s agony and emotions of love, whereas the last track, re: Stacks, can be seen as a resolution to the previous tunes. Skinny Love was the first single released, followed by, For Emma, and re: Stacks. Please have a listen; I watched a live venue of Bon Iver and he was so grateful for the feedback he’s received for the album and his fans.

The verdict? 5/5

* Oh yeah, it’s pronounced Bon Iver (Iv – Yare), not Bon Eye-Ver. It’s a bastardised version of “Good Winter” in French.

Flight of the Conchords releases new album

Today, the Flight of the Conchords released their newest album, “I Told You I Was Freaky.” This album is a collection of the music from season two of their HBO show. Some of the more notable songs from the album are “Too Many Dicks (On The Dancefloor),” “We’re Both In Love With A Sexy Lady,” and “Friends.” This new album only prepares me even more for the third season of Flight of the Conchords, should Bret and Jemaine feel up to it.
