Best bands of 2005

So this isn’t a poll or anything, but the other day I was just thinking to myself “Who have I really got into this year?” so I figured I’d share the list of bands which I’ve either discovered or re-discovered this year. First up I’ve gotta say Jimmy Eat World, they seem to be the best representation of the way I’ve moved away from indie-pop to the more emo side of music. Secondly The Editors and Nine Black Alps came to mind. They’ve really done it for British Indie, I hadn’t really realised the talent that was on the British scene but these guys have helped raise the profile of alot of other bands aswell. Finally Death Cab have just continued to impess me with their never ageing style, although Plans was a slight let down for me. So why don’t you share the highlights of your musical year? I’m pretty curious to hear what other new acts have popped up and captured everyones interest…

The Killers showed up this year and really boosted the profile of Indie. Not an actual band, but relating to many bands, there was the Association of Indie Music which has decided to offer licensing rights to podcasters to play music from the Arctic monkeys and the killers (and many more) in their podcasts. Definitely a good year for the genre, but more a year which has provided the foundations for an even bigger boost in 2006. It’s looking good, have a good christmas chris.

Sam… This year’s been plagued with copyright laws, but next year we have Podsafe music. This means we can have a podcast! With Zak!

One highlight is the debut from Panic! At The Disco. It fuses the emo-rock of Fall Out Boy with some electronic dance beats, resulting in a dense, lush indie sound.

Nizlopi have done well in the UK, finally getting on the radio after touring for all these years.

But my favourite success story has to be Embrace. Dropped by their labels over the years, they released their fourth album in 2005 which was very well received by almost everyone. As a long-term fan, it personally made me very happy.
