2 + 2 = 5… I concur.

One word: Radiohead. Radiohead is pretty much the best band on the planet (along with Lightning Bolt). No matter what mood I’m in, where I’m at, what I’m doing, I can always pop in one of the fantastic Radiohead albums and it will excite the hell outta me. If you’re reading this and are thinking “Aren’t they the blokes who did that song ‘Creep?’” you should probably keep reading (keep reading even if you didn’t think that). Radiohead’s sound has evolved and changed a lot, but always in a damn good way. Their older albums (Pablo Honey, The Bends) have more of a straight up rock ‘n’ roll or grunge-ish sound to them, but as the other albums were released (OK Computer, Kid A, Amnesiac, Hail to the Theif), they gain so much more. Usage of synth, guitar perversion, robotic voices, sampling, etc. adds to the already great sound. They’ve been hailed as “One of the most influential bands of our era” many-a-time and it’s basically the stone cold truth. If you don’t already listen to Radiohead on a daily basis, I highly suggest you do. Or else miss out on one of the greatest bands ever.

I’m a big Radiohead myself.

Favorite album is OK Computer, followed by Hail to the Thief.

this post is pretty random and uninforming.

Dear Marc,

The reason this post is random is because I’m allowed to do that. Also, it could be informing to anyone with a brain, or someone who doesn’t listen to Radiohead for some odd reason. I never said those albums were “grunge,” I said they were “grunge-ish.” And does it really matter what I’m smoking? It’s definetely better than what you’re smoking my friend.

And I think it would help if you knew what true grunge was.

Marc, I am sorry you didn’t agree with Chaz’s article. I think what Chaz was referring to was that Pablo Honey and The Bends were harder sounding then OK Computer, Hail to the Theif, etc. Not literally Grunge.

Cheers :)

Just a question…but how does Radiohead exactly fit in with “indie music”? Also, the Shins, but I’ll leave that alone since not everyone knows who they are, even though they are *extremely* successful and really hardly indie at all. Not trying to be rude or attack; just curious as to the title and subject-matter of your blog.

Last time I checked being indie wasn’t about listening to those “bands you’ve never heard of,” (which I do anyways, except of course, Radiohead) but I’m pretty sure it was about having an excellent musical taste, and being a damn good person overall. Now I’m not attacking anyone here, but since when did being indie turn into something where you listen to The Shins, or The Killers, whom everyone knows about anyways? Being indie (at least to me) is like I said earlier, having a great musical taste, being a good person, wearing what you want, and being a strong creative person.

In my mind, there’s two different indies. Let me explain:

1. Indie stand for independent, which means small bands that “you’ve never heard of”

2. Indie is a certain music style, which include bands like Radiohead, Strokes, Arcade Fire, etc.

Yeah, having a genre using a term like “indie” is pretty dangerous to begin with. Once a band that was once small and only went with small record companies goes to a larger record company and gets a huge fan base, does that change the way their music sounds necessarily? You have to kind of decide whether its an actual genre or just a grouping of a certain type of band.

oh by the way Radiohead is amazing.
